What is the Map App Hack?
Brisbane GIS Day 2014 Map App Hack is a nationwide open data competition. We challenge you to develop a great entrepreneurial and creative app that makes use of spatial technology and open data on a smartphone (native app or web app).
Use your programming, maps and apps expertise to create something new, exciting and beneficial to community and/or industry.
The independent judging panel will be looking for fresh, innovative ideas that solve a particular problem. And we’re leaving it up to you to decide what problem to solve. The world of open data is your oyster!
The winning individual or team will receive $5000, great publicity for their app, and free entry to the exclusive Brisbane GIS Day 2014 VIP After Party.

A two-month innovation competition to showcase the possibilities of open data.

You have until the 1st November 2014 to submit your entries. The shortlisted entrants will be notified on the 14th November 2014 and will be invited to the Brisbane GIS Day to showcase their creations. A winner will be chosen by the judging panel and announced after the app showcases on GIS Day.
By entering the Map App Hack competition, the entrant agrees to and accepts these competition conditions. Notwithstanding the above, competition entry is deemed acceptance of these.
To be eligible to register for and enter this competition, the entrant must:
i. use open data from any Government Department in Australia.
ii. not be an employee or contracted staff of GIS People or the competition sponsor.
iii. be at least 16 years of age.
iv. be available to attend Brisbane GIS Day 2014 to present their app if shortlisted.
No liability of promoter
i. grants to the Promoter (and agents or contractors acting on behalf of the Promoter) the right to promote and market the submitted application or website, but not the right to seek remuneration from such promotion and marketing; and
ii. consents to their name (in whole or in part) being acknowledged as the developer in any media and within any material relating to or arising out of the competition including for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes relating to the Promoter. The nominated entrant acknowledges and accepts that the Promoter (and agents and contractors acting on behalf of the Promoter) are not obliged to use the nominated entrant’s presentation in the competition and/or their name on any such materials or in any media, however if it does, Promoter shall acknowledge the nominated entrant as the owner of the presentation.
